This game was a tie-in to the 2008 film Speed Racer. The film was not exactly well-received, although its hectic candy-coloured vision has come to be appreciated over time. The game, developed by Wellington’s own Sidhe Interactive, was seen much more favorably.
I was pulled in to write dialogue for the other racers to shout at you as you drive past them (or they drive past you). I sat in an office and read the entire script, then went to work. Many of the characters in the game had only one or two lines in the film, and a bunch had no voice at all in the film, so there was a fair bit of invention involved. My dialogue then went into the development and approvals process before being recorded at Burbank and added to the game.
