Pookie from Reviews from R’lyeh has dropped a big review of FiveEvil: Fiendish 5E Horror, and it’s a heck of a read, right from the title: Fifth Edition Filleted.
“…what if someone else told you that there is a horror roleplaying game based on Dungeons & Dragons, Fifth Edition which casts the ‘heroes’ as ordinary men and women who can get scared, act out of desperation, pay for their mistakes, and are forced to suffer unfair odds in the face of terrifying situations, horrifying monsters, and malign evil? All that and it is uncomplicated and easy to learn, plays and runs fast, and is supported by numerous scenarios straight out of the book, one of which you could be playing within an hour of the Game Master opening the book? You might not believe me, but such roleplaying game really does exist and upfront it makes a claim on the front cover so bold that you might wonder at the designer’s audacity.”
It’s such a great read, and it’s clear Pookie really gets what we were throwing down.
Reviewing games is hard work and there aren’t many people doing it any more, so those who remain are so valuable to the TTRPG industry. Pookie has been at it for a long time now so please go clicking around once you’re there, there is a phenomenal archive of reviews, lots of horror game material but a bunch of other genres too: Reviews from R’yleh
